Qualifications and Application Process
Local 38's Apprenticeship Program conducts written examinations every two years. The Apprenticeship Program will hold its next test in June, 2018. Application information as well as the specific test date will be posted on the website mid-April. Applications will be available either on this website, or at our San Francisco Training Center, 2660 Newhall St., San Francisco or at our Santa Rosa Training Center, 3473 Santa Rosa Ave., Santa Rosa. Apprentices must be 18 or older, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and have a California driver's license.
Step 1: Fill out a written application.
Step 2: Successful applicants will then be asked to take a written examination covering general knowledge.
Step 3: Applicants who pass the written examination will be scheduled for an interview with representatives of the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC) that governs the Training Program.
Step 4: Successful applicants are placed on a numbered list. The number of openings in the Apprenticeship Program is determined twice annually by the JATC.
Step 5: Applicants are notified as to when their classroom training begins.
Step 6: Trainees are indentured as apprentices after they begin job-site training.
